Mobisodes: Entertainment On The Go

From television to the internet and to the era of smartphones, technology created accessing information, news and entertainment on demand possible. Mediums called websisodes and mobisodes changed the how we view and receive entertainment.

The term was originally coined for reformatted television episodes. While webisodes refer to consumption for the web; mobisodes were shorter film clips made suitable for mobile consumption (Wired Magazine, 2007).

So what's the difference? Here's what ....

Webisodes
Short: 3 to 15 mins
•Only accessible via the internet.

Mobisodes
Shorter: 30 secs to 5 mins
•Clip is filmed & edited to suit medium. More closed up to allow better viewing via mobile phone.
•Teasers. Mainly to complement linear channel/series instead of an excerpt from an episode.

Mobile users can download popular Television series like Lost, Prison Break and Bones which have jumped on the bandwagon and released weekly episodic content or abandoned story lines to keep their audiences engaged. With evolving technology, audiences demands have changed. It will not be surprising that before long, Hollywood-style disaster epics of the future could be shot on the humble handset (The Telegraph, 2012).
